|May 7, 2015Last week, I went over some of the interactive features that Frontpoint has offer, one of them being Geo-Services, a tool that’s all about making life a little bit easier for you.
Let’s dive into what Geo-Services is all about, and how you can set it up for yourself.
Geo-Services in a Nutshell
It starts with something called the “geo-fence,” an invisible ring around a location that you designate. Geo-Services tracks your location using the GPS in your mobile device, so whenever you enter or exit the geo-fence, any Geo-Service rules and settings you have applied will automatically go into effect. Here are some of the rules and settings that you can apply: Arming Reminders: Receive notifications if you forget to arm your system, or when specific sensors are triggered or remain ‘open’ for too long Thermostat Control: Have the thermostat automatically adjust the temperature as you come and go Pause Video Recording: Have your cameras pause their recording when you’re inside the geo-fence, preventing unnecessary recordings Event-triggered Lights: Automatically turn the lights on or off as you enter or leave the geo-fence, or when certain sensors are triggered You can have multiple geo-fences, each with their own set of rules. You could leave your home’s geo-fence and receive an arming reminder, then enter the geo-fence surrounding your workplace and have your home’s automated thermostat adjust its temperature. Geo-Services also supports multiple users and each individual can have their own rules and settings. How to Enable and Configure Geo-Services
To enable Geo-Services, all you need to do is log into the Frontpoint app (download it for free from the app store) on your mobile device. From there, go to Options and select Geo-Services. Then drag the slider to the right, and confirm your choice by selecting Turn On. *The GPS on your phone must be enabled in order to use Geo-Services. Now that your smartphone is ready for Geo-Services, it’s time to configure your own set of rules! There’s a lot you can tinker around with, so I suggest playing with it until you find what works for you. To get you started, here’s how to create a geo-fence and an event-triggered rule so your lights turn off when you leave the geo-fence.- Log into your account on MyFrontpoint.com
- Click on the Mobile tab, and then the Geo-Services link that’s below it
- Create a geo-fence by clicking on the Add a Fence. Here you can specify the location of your geo-fence, change its name and radius (between 1-100 miles). Click Save when you’re finished
- Click on the Light Automation Rules. To create a rule that automatically turns your lights off when exiting your geo-fence:
- Click Save
