Security camera systems provide 24-7 visibility of your home

The presence of home security cameras deters criminals, provides crucial evidence in case of burglary or break-in, and lets you keep an active eye on your home, family, and pets from anywhere, at any time. Frontpoint Security customers use their wireless security cameras to monitor activity inside and outside of their homes by viewing real-time footage on the Frontpoint mobile app or through their My.FrontpointSecurity.com account.

With Frontpoint’s motion-detecting security cameras, users can set up their system to send instant notifications any time the cameras sense motion. This enables them to quickly check a series of 15-second clips to determine if there is a threat.

And the benefits of Frontpoint’s wireless security cameras extend well beyond home security—with the two-way audio capabilities of the Indoor, Premium Indoor, and Doorbell cameras, users can see, hear, and speak to people in their home, comfort anxious pets, or answer the door remotely.

Let’s discuss the features you should consider when choosing cameras for your home security system, examine the specifications of Frontpoint’s four security camera options, and learn how best to utilize each model within your home.

What features should you consider when choosing a home security camera?

Many things affect how well a security camera will function as part of a home security system and whether or not it is capable of meeting the user’s expectations. These features include the following:

1. Resolution

A camera’s resolution will determine the quality of the video footage it captures. If the resolution is too low, your footage may be blurry or grainy. All of Frontpoint’s video cameras offer HD resolution for clear imagery.

2. Viewing Range

Viewing range is an indication of how far the camera can see while still providing high-quality images. The location of the camera and the distance you would like it to monitor effectively will dictate the viewing range you should look for. Typically, outdoor devices will have a longer viewing range than indoor models.

3. Field of View

A camera’s field of view determines how much of the surrounding space you will be able to see. Features like pan and tilt capability increase the field of view by allowing you to turn the camera from side to side and/or tilt it up and down to see more of the area.

4. Night Vision

Choose cameras with night vision capabilities and check the night vision range to ensure that they will capture good quality video in the dark. With infrared night vision, each of Frontpoint’s security cameras captures very clear video, day or night.

5. Motion Detection

By providing motion-activated home security cameras, Frontpoint enables users to receive an alert and a video clip any time their cameras sense motion. Each model offers different motion detection ranges and has customized sensitivity settings so users can control what will trigger a recording.

6. Weather-Resistance

It’s important to choose weather-resistant cameras for any that are placed outdoors. These devices should be able to withstand extreme temperatures, wind, dust, rain, sleet, and snow.

7. Internet/Wi-Fi Enabled

Security cameras need internet access to record footage, back it up, and stream a real-time feed to your smartphone. All of Frontpoint’s cameras are Wi-Fi enabled and communicate with your account using your home internet service, and the indoor models also can connect via Ethernet.

8. Wireless Encryption

Uploading security camera footage for remote viewing raises privacy concerns for many people. With Frontpoint Security, you can rest assured that your private moments will remain private. We use bank-grade wireless encryption on all video feeds to ensure secure transmission and storage. Our monitoring service does not view your video feeds—access is limited to your personal account users. Frontpoint takes your privacy seriously.

9. Ease of Installation

Some home security cameras are difficult to set up and may even require professional installation. When you get your cameras from Frontpoint, however, they arrive at your door already pre-programmed for your exact system, making DIY installation using the included setup guide quick and easy.

Frontpoint offers a range of wireless home security cameras

With four different security camera options, Frontpoint has your home’s surveillance needs covered. Each model has unique capabilities that make it great for different scenarios. Best of all, Frontpoint’s security cameras integrate flawlessly with all of your other Frontpoint Security System components for maximum convenience and ease of use.

Let’s look at the how each type of Frontpoint camera will meet your needs—whether your goal is video surveillance of your home’s exterior doors and windows, keeping an eye on loved when you’re away, scaring off would-be intruders using only the sound of your voice, or receiving motion-triggered video clips of your home’s interior.

Frontpoint’s Indoor Camera

Equipped with a 113° field of view, night vision, and a viewing range of 50 feet, Frontpoint’s Indoor Camera captures crystal-clear, high-resolution video. This camera offers users a range of resolution-recording settings; choose a higher resolution for better picture quality or lower resolution for quicker upload speeds.

As with all Frontpoint cameras, the Indoor Camera is motion activated and will automatically start recording when it senses nearby movement, or if the alarm goes off. If you choose, you will also be sent mobile notifications of any movement. And the Indoor Camera’s two-way audio capabilities allow you to speak to those inside your home from anywhere using your smartphone or another computer.

The Indoor Camera makes it easy to keep an eye on your pets during the day, to see if someone is moving around your home when you’re away, or to check in on your kids after school. You can also keep an eye on pet sitters, adult caregivers, nannies, and other service providers.

Frontpoint’s Premium Indoor Camera

With Bluetooth speakers, an echo-canceling microphone, digital pan and tilt capabilities, and a full 180° view, Frontpoint’s Premium Indoor Camera offers enhanced communication and video abilities. Like the Indoor Camera, the Premium Indoor Camera will record if detects movement or an alarm is triggered, and it provides two-way audio capabilities for user-initiated audio calls via the Frontpoint App or web portal.

The Premium Indoor Camera also offers 1920x1080 HD resolution and night vision with a range of up to 15 feet. This model is suited for interior spaces, and it will operate in temperatures ranging from 32°F to 104°F.

With all the capabilities of the Indoor Camera and more, Premium Indoor Cameras work as well (and a little better) in all of the same scenarios. They can even be added to your account but placed in another home, giving you the ability to easily check on aging relatives remotely via audio and the video feed.

For exterior security, choose Frontpoint’s Outdoor Camera. It’s weatherproof, withstanding temperatures from -4°F to 122°F. And with an industry-leading detection range, a 117° field of view, and 1920×1080 pixel HD resolution, the Outdoor Camera provides excellent video surveillance coverage. It also leverages infrared night vision to record in the dark up to 40 feet away.

Whether a burglar is prowling around your yard, bored teenagers are egging your house, or a storm knocks a tree over onto your roof, your Outdoor Camera will capture the event and can send you an instant mobile alert so that you can address the problem.

Frontpoint’s Doorbell Camera

Frontpoint’s Doorbell Camera is another type of security camera that’s designed for outdoor use. Because the front door is the most common entry point during a burglary—and package thieves are a growing problem—a wireless doorbell camera is an excellent addition to your home security system. Use two-way audio capabilities to speak to visitors remotely, give instructions to delivery personnel, and possibly even scare away potential intruders.

Frontpoint’s Doorbell Camera is one of the slimmest wide-range doorbell cameras on the market. With a viewing angle of 180°, an 8-foot range, full-color night vision, and 720p HD resolution, you can clearly see whoever is at your door, day or night. And the Doorbell Camera’s motion sensors will alert you of any activity in the area, even if the doorbell isn’t pressed.

This water-resistant camera is designed to replace an existing, working doorbell button. It’s entirely AC-powered, receiving its power through the same wiring as an existing doorbell, and can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°F to 140°F.

Choosing the right home security cameras for your needs ensures the right level of surveillance

Whatever your reasons for installing a security camera system, you will be most satisfied with your investment if you choose the models that meet your specific needs. Be sure to opt for security cameras designed for the environment in which they will be placed. At a minimum, look for high resolution, good range, an appropriate field of view for the application, and night-vision capabilities.

Also, remember to choose cameras that integrate completely with your other installed security system components—each of which can be customized to trigger a recording—and that offer the advanced features you’re looking for. Security cameras that are Wi-Fi enabled, motion-activated, and offer two-way communication will provide the best in safety, security, and convenience.
