How to Turn Alexa into Your Personal Security Assistant
Using Alexa voice integration adds an extra level of convenience to your smart home security system. If you have a Frontpoint Security system and a compatible Amazon device, you can start using voice commands by adding a new skill in the Alexa app. The Frontpoint skill supports lights, thermostats, security panels, garage doors, and cameras. Here are a few examples of the many phrases you can say to control your system with Alexa.
1. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to arm stay.”
You can control the security panels in your Frontpoint system with your voice by telling Alexa to arm and disarm. This is particularly useful for a quick disarm when there’s a false alarm. You can even ask her if the alarm is on before opening a door with a sensor on it if you’re not sure.
2. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to switch off the lights.”
With Alexa integration, you can use your voice to turn Frontpoint Light Bulbs on and off. Switch on all the lights in your home or just those in a specific spot by saying, “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to switch on the porch light.” If you’re unsure that the light is on, you can always ask Alexa to check for you. Another cool feature is that you can dim the lights with your voice. For example, impress your dinner guests by saying, “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to set the dining room light to 50 percent,” and the lights will dim for you.
3. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to set the thermostat to 70 degrees.”
Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night sweating, but you don’t want to get out of bed to turn up the AC? If you have a Frontpoint Smart Thermostat, simply say, “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to set the thermostat to 70 degrees” or whatever you find most comfortable. You can also ask Alexa to tell you the current temperature of your home. If you have multiple thermostats in your house, you can specify which one in any of your commands.
4. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to close the garage doors.”
If you have a Frontpoint Garage Door Tilt Sensor, you can use voice commands to open and close the garage door. If you’re not sure that you left the garage open or not, you can say, “Alexa, ask Frontpoint if the garage door is closed,” and she will tell you the status.
5. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to unlock the front door.”
Let’s say you’re on the couch watching TV and your kids just got home, but they forgot the key and want you to unlock the front door for them. If you have a Frontpoint Smart Door Lock, there’s no need to get up from the couch! Just tell Alexa to unlock the front door for you. If you get settled in bed and realize you’re unsure if the door is locked, have Alexa check on it. If you forgot, tell Alexa to lock up.
6. “Alexa, ask Frontpoint to record a clip with the living room camera.”
You can use Alexa for Frontpoint cameras too! Use voice commands to record clips or, if you have a premium camera, you can ask her to tilt or pan the lens.
One of the benefits of a top-rated DIY home security system is convenience, and what’s more convenient than voice control? If you have a Frontpoint system, set up Alexa integration and explore the wide range of available commands.
